Super Contemporary

As the subject of Design Museum ‘Super Contemporary’, seems a representative that means something very modern, fashionable, stylish, and I supposed that would be the purpose we need to watch. However, the main presentation of the subject is shown much more than what I expected, and it not only presents various contemporary designs including industry, construction, interior, but also points the history of design in London. Therefore, I definitely enjoyed the process of viewing all kinds of designs and understanding the abstracts or introductions of history of design on the same time.

Generally, I was really impressive about majority of works, which some are contemporary works, unique, individual, inspirable, such as the concepts of future cars and constructions, and the others are classic and historical innovations, such like the costume designed by Mary Queen who was one of significant fashion designer in 1960. Especially, I majored fashion design in university, so I was easily attracted by costumes and fashion designers. Therefore, I cannot help but stop my steps in front of the introductions of famous fashion designers as John Galliano, Paul Smith, and Hussein Chalayan. However, watching or reading their information did not seem like my original purpose of investigating super contemporary designs, so I spent majority of last 1 hour on experiencing some particular works rather than reading these introductions words by words.

In conclusion, I think the subject of Design Museum is definitely educational. Although it emphasizes the concept of contemporary design, it still points the historical effects and makes viewers like me compare the differences of development between now and before. Moreover, I also recognized that every super contemporary design finally will become history and there will be a lot of unexpected new super contemporary designs which will be happened and discovered in the future.

Formal and Informal (A particular area of study)

For many students’ instance, they constantly are confusing how to select appropriate words into a formal or academic essay. From the subject of recognizing formal and informal, it seems that most of formal words are more complex than informal words, but formal sentences are usually more concise than informal words instead. Furthermore, grammatical use should be observed carefully, as well as using passive tense is more formal than active one. Nevertheless, it is important to consider the structure and organization before the sentences have been written.

Over the Rainbow (GAY PARADE 2009 IN LONDON)

It seems that rainbow is not only one kind of natural phenomenon but also a symbol of homosexuality, which means colorful lives, various personalities, and curvy sexuality. Many gay corporations and human rights groups have organized regular events or festivals as gay parade in different modern cities as London, Los Angeles, and Taipei, for the purpose which can publicize their human rights, creation, and reflection. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to attend the famous activity this year in London and was affected by the environment where gays presented their confidence, beauty, and passion for their lives.

As colorful as rainbow, gay parade this year was full of people as several kinds of groups, such like gay, lesbian, transsexual queen, artist, muscle men, Asian… etc, and it was very significant to new students as my lovely classmates and me to visit this parade. Therefore, we decided to walk beside them among the street from Green Park to Soho. During the way, we took a lot of photos with them, laughed with them, and enjoyed everything including music and beer. The only thing I definitely believe is that gay has no difference with normal person but looks more joyful, lovely, and confident than the others. Moreover, I was impressed a lot by their innovation and creation, such as using recycled materials or rainbow flags to make dresses, and I suggest all students who study in UAL should participate in this kind of event.

To sum up, lives nowadays have been changed a lot already, and multi-sexualities have been more acceptable by most of people. I definitely believe that everyone will explore and get his/her own way to achieve happy ending. Furthermore, I wish all gays that there will be somewhere blessed over the rainbow.

My consideration to the aims of education

The aims of education as the methods schools always teach have been changed all the time. However, different opinions of education are constantly discussed by students and students’ parents, and it seems that no one can give a perfect definition or conclusion to human learning. Some of them may expect students should choice what they intend to learn instead of what schools decide to teach, but the others may have concerns that students’ behavior and knowledge will no longer have a good standard if they only learn or do what they want.

In my case, basing on my working experience as a junior high school’s teacher, I definitely think that we should not underestimate the learning ability of students’ human nature. For instant of my students, they usually tried to imitate someone who they intend to be and learn what they interest. In my opinion, I extremely believe that neither learning what they want nor teaching what teachers want would be appropriate to students nowadays. However, I suggest that the aims of education should discover what ability and knowledge students need to learn first of all, and then school could try to find various ways which can be attractive to students. Therefore, students will not only be interesting what they study but also have a decent standard.

Although the aims of education have been always changing but never completely defined, I truly believe that students nowadays will reveal the answers by themselves. In fact, I am not worrying about the aims of education at all, and I deeply suppose that there will be a road to direct them even they get lost. My only consideration to the aims of education is the situation that they will be maintained in the same way, instead of changed or fixed as time goes on.

My English

Using English nowadays is the most common and convenient method to acquire knowledge such as different cultures, technology, and other academic studies. However, most of people who are not native English speakers always suppose that the only advantage of understanding English is to communicate with foreigner. In my case, I think my English ability is qualified to communicate from general speaking and listening, but I afraid it is not good enough to discuss or learn complex subjects as political problem, economy, or marketing analyzing. Therefore, I deeply have known that I need to intensify my English ability before I will be officially applied into MA main course at LCC.

Horror Harrods

I will never forget this terrible experience on 27th Jun. However, that day was definitely many people’s favorite day in this year, because it is the first day of discount in Harrods. In a fact, I was attracted to go shopping there by advertising on buses around in London, and intended to buy some presents for my friends in Taiwan. Therefore, some of my new classmates and I decided to go there to visit the most luxurious department store in the world.

There absolutely were crowds of people in front of Harrods, and most of them especially took a long queue for purchasing something in GUCCI. After passing this significant crowd, I suddenly discovered that someone was closing to me and tried stealing something from my handbag. Although I detected the action of thief, my mobile phone was still stolen by the thief during a few seconds while a crowd of people were pushing each other. Afterwards, I tried asking my classmates to call my mobile number in order to check it available or not, but they found it was switched off immediately. Undoubtedly, I was angry and scared at this terrible situation that I lost not only my mobile phone but also my contact list of my phonebook.

Eventually, I didn’t purchase anything cheap in Harrods, but I lost an important tool to contact my friends instead. In my case, I cannot stop thinking that Harrods is really a horrible place.

Frist Impressions

-----------------Homework on 25 Jun 09-------------------
First Impressions written by Alan (HU YA-LUN)

This is my third time in London and it’s difficult to remember my first impressions of London. If I remembered, I suppose that they must were multi-culture, modern construction, and various races in such a giant city. At this time I intend to present my first impressions of London College of Communication where I study an academic course.

In my opinion, London College of Communication may be the biggest building of UAL, although I have never been to the other colleges except CSM. I heard from my friends who have lived in London for a long time that the location of LCC would be a seriously dangerous place of the central London, but during full time of study I did not discover anything threatening at all. However, I found that there are some things impressive in this building, such as a large restaurant where has various delicious foods, a unique library where has plentiful learning resources and facilities, and many friendly classmates with a handsome tutor.

In conclusion, I do believe that I will acquire enough knowledge from this modern campus as LCC and I deeply ensure that I will not only be more appropriate to be a good student but also get a lot of friends here. In any case, I am definitely enjoying everything in this big city.
